Have you noticed a trend? It seems like most of your quality responses come on Twitter. Maybe it's just this post, eh? Anyway, here's to a stupendously successful and uplifting New Year. May all boats be lifted as well. I don't want to go anywhere without everybody (with the possible exception of Glen Beck, Karl Rove, and a few others).

I wholeheartedly agree. One of my long-standing feelings is that of disappointment so many men are such jerks. I understand the feelings of resentment and even anger toward women - based on the ongoing inability of the two to communicate well. I frequently opine that "Men are from Mars, and women are from an entirely different galaxy". However, there's never an excuse for abuse and, especially, violence in a relationship, in my opinion.

I was raised to believe the strong have a responsibility to protect the weak. Since men are generally physically (I didn't say physiologically) stronger than women and children, it's our responsibility to provide comfort and protection when others are threatened or violated. Sadly, a large proportion of men seem to be more interested in how they look to other men, not in how they behave and, therefore, look to society in general.

Perhaps testosterone is one of the most powerful drugs known, but we're supposed to be civilized, eh?

As far as social media is concerned, I also agree and it goes beyond gender. Thankfully, I've not seen a great deal of assholiness in my forays into the social world. There are those I wold classify as jerks, but not too many true assholes.

This is too weird, that I of all people should be the first to comment on a post on Comments. Much as I might want to, I rarely post comments, in large part because of my ancient and morbid fears of spam. Never mind that emails on most blogs (at least WP) are now private by default. Then again, it is sort of daunting to post a comment on such a post. What have I got to contribute to your well thought out ideas? Who am I that anyone would want to see my words?

Hell, the first thing someone looks at on such a post would be the comments. I often have found the comments to be as helpful and entertaining as the post itself. I love it when people comment. No pressure.

I want to be more a part of the conversation, especially with those whose work I admire. I want to support them and add to the richness of the discussion. I want to educate, to entertain, to claim my seat at the table. Heck, I want to be 2.0'ed.

There. Ok. Glad that's over. I have hereby fulfilled my one blog comment per year policy. Change is hard. I need a nap. See ya all next year.
